DEMO Certifications

In October 1999, Andre Gray conducted extensive global research on the Internet and off-line to see if he could find any websites or off-line organizations whose primary business model was to monitor music sales over the Internet and present sales certifications awards to recording artists who achieved a certain sales plateau.  Needless to say, even today, there are absolutely no organizations (on- or off-line) offering Internet music sales certification awards.  Therefore, if any individual, corporate entity, or music industry trade organization were to start awarding recording sales certifications for recordings sales generated via the Internet—secured or otherwise (i.e. mail order)—they are “copying” Andre Gray’s "original invention” and "business model process".

Any recording sales that were “caused” by the Internet that has achieved a sales level of at least 500,000 units or better will be recognized by being awarded a sales certification plaque by Andre Gray and the trade music organization that he created called DEMO: Digital & Electronic Music Organization, Inc.  In this context, the word “caused” shall be construed to mean downloaded, mail order fulfillment, click through advertisement, a la carte, non- a la carte, subscriptions, affiliate programs, digital kiosks, ringtones, mobile phones, PDAs, educational institutions, legitimate P2P music sales, and any other future enabling technologies, etc.

Mail Order:  Music sales that were achieved via an advertisement that was placed on the Internet.  The viewer of the ad decides to purchase the recordings by mailing in a check, money order, credit cards, micropayments, internet-secured payment systems (i.e. Paypal), and any future enabling technologies to the Music Company mailing address or as instructed by the website.

Here are the certifications levels of hierarchy and criteria:

bullet

Flash Gold™:  Certified global sales of 500,000—999,999 units worldwide that was caused by the Internet

bullet

Liquid Crystal™:  Certified global sales of 1,000,000—4,999,999 units worldwide that was caused by the Internet

bullet

Flaming Star™:  Certified global sales of 5,000,000+ units worldwide that was caused by the Internet

bullet

Titanium +™Certified global sales of 100,000,000 units worldwide that was caused by the Internet.

The secured electronic music sales (SEMS™) certifications process works like this.  If an artist, online music store or label has sold at least 500,000 units or better caused by the Internet, notify DEMO and request an awards certification form.  The information needed on the form includes record company name, artist(s) names, title of album or single, configuration (album, single, short form, music video, DVD, ringtones, downloads, CD, or any combination thereof), sales plateau level (Flash Gold™, Liquid Crystal™, Flaming Star™, Titanium +™), and release date.  Next, DEMO conducts an independent audit of the label’s date warehouse analytics and other related records to quantifiably verify the secured electronic music sales (SEMS™) accuracy of claims.  If the label’s claims of sales of 500,000 units or better are quantifiably accurate, DEMO will present the appropriate sales plateau level certifications to the artist(s), label executives, record producers, engineers, managers, agents, and other key music industry players as requested by the artist(s) label.

The name for the DEMO secured music sales (SEMS™) certifications and their respective denominational levels were named after Elvis Presley, by far the single most successful, revolutionary, and important musical figure in the entire history of American popular music and the greatest cultural icon of the 20th century.  Flash Gold™ was taken from an early nickname—Memphis Flash—given to him during his Sun Records days.  Liquid Crystal™ is part technology and part reference to his love for crystal china, hence the term liquid crystal.  Flaming Star™ is the name and title song of an early 1960’s Elvis western movie.  Besides, if you are a flaming star, you are really hot.

The certification process will be global in scope encompassing all six continents.  Since the Internet has turned the world into a digital global village™ that has no geographical constraints, the sales certification criteria for each continent will be the same, regardless of sales analytics breakdown attributed to certain countries, regions, or hemispheres.
